When YouTube launched it's first captioning tool, we were ecstatic! But once I tested it, I had to re-do the majority of the captions since the words were all incorrect. Although YouTube's captioning tool is getting better, it still has many glitches and doesn't always work when needed. At our organization, we go above and beyond the basic YouTube captions by implementing embedded captions right into the video itself. This way, we are sure that every user will see them when needed and we can be confident that the wording is correct! This process can be done many ways, but here we use DivXL Media Subtitler. I also recommend the online OverStream tool at overstream.net, which allows you to add subtitles to online videos. We do not post videos anywhere without captioning!
