The Social Security Administration sends out compact disks, which are printed with personal information on the face, and mailed in expensive packaging. For instance, an increase in SSDI for an individual and their three children will get four CDs in the mail, packaged separately. It is a huge waste of taxpayer resources, and with optical drives going away in computers, in favor of Internet downloads, this type of communication is outdated and very irresponsible. Odds are, that quite a few unknowing people have tossed the CD in the trash with their personal information still showing on the face of it. The SSA needs to design a secure online portal that allows encrypted documents to be delivered without the need for a CD, and without the complications of excessive security that inhibits accessibility (think online banking).
