Learn More about This Dialogue

Why is this dialogue taking place?

We want to learn about the actual experiences of people with disabilities with various social media platforms. The purpose of this dialogue is to 1) gain a sense of the value of social media on the lives of people with disabilities; 2) to be able to describe some major accessibility issues of social media in general; and 3) to understand the myriad creative ways people with disabilities approach social media when faced with accessibility issues.

Coordinated by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), this online event is co-hosted by the National Council on Disability (NCD). This dialogue is the first in a three-part series. It is happening because we want to find out what problems people with disabilities have using social media, and how we can make this better. The information gathered from this dialogue will help NCD engage in further outreach and seek progressive solutions and reform.

Why participate?

Social media is a powerful tool that many people use in all aspects of their daily life. However, many people with disabilities still encounter difficulties when using social media. This dialogue is an opportunity the disability community to share their experiences with NCD, ODEP and the social media industry.

Who should participate?

This online event is open to the general public and to anyone interested in participating. We strongly encourage people with disabilities who use various social media platforms to participate.
